The Conference

Before children even go to school it is clear they are absorbing and learning so many things. Its wonderfully exciting seeing the world through their eyes, sharing the wonder and adventure of life.

We firmly believe that every person is precious to God. At the same time, the Bible indicates that God's heart is favourably disposed to those that are 'small' in the eyes of this world. The Bible also identifies children as generally being more spiritually receptive than adults.

This year's conference focuses on what we can learn about both children and adult discipleship and how we can make the most of teaching them.

The Speakers

Stephen Shearsby

Bible Study: Into the Heart (Mark 10:13-31)

Stephen grew up in Sydney and is married to Heather who originally came from Perth; together they have three young daughters. Stephen trained for full time ministry and was ordained as an Anglican minister in 2006. The combination of fatherhood and theological training made him realize the importance of ministry to children and their parents. He has previously worked full time as a children's minister, a secondary teacher and in construction management. Stephen loves surfing and enjoys making quality espresso. Stephen is now responsible for the development and implementation of Kidzlink's vision.

What makes people tick? (Lyn Roberts)

Having trouble loving your co workers on your ministry team? Or maybe it's that mum who comes each week that you try to avoid because she drives you up the wall and you don't know why. God created us to be in relationship with him and has given us the ability to love others. Why are some people so hard to love?

This workshop will give you the skills on how to train your children in a way that suits their individual personalities. This will then lead into understanding ways to communicate with people you come in contact with week in and week out making those personality differences work in your relationships.

Lyn Roberts training in parenting began with her own two children who are now 29 and 27. She continued to learn her parenting skills during her employment as a community nurse counsellor for a disability service. She was a part of a multi disciplinary team of doctors, psychologist, social workers and nurses. Her role was attending to the needs of the parents who struggled with their disabled children's and siblings' behaviour. It was during this period that she saw a need in the community for basic parenting skills that would include the gospel message.

How to run a successful Bible story time (Rachel Greenwood)

Children love stories and learn so much from them. This workshop aims to develop our skills as engaging storytellers.

Rachel is a wife and mother who is currently studying for her Masters in children's literature, with a particular interest in the oration of the picture book. She is also currently assisting Anglican Youthworks with the rewrite of their SRE program.
